Farewell Louise

The day started off badly. Enjoying my porridge before serving our guests their breakfast, two young thrushes hurtled into the window. Kevin and I ran outside immediately to rescue the pair from any lurking cats, only to find that they were already dead.

That was upsetting enough but later in the morning we decided that we must bid farewell to our lovely Louise. Her sight has been failing for over twelve months, deteriorating quite quickly these past few weeks. This week she hasn’t been outside at all unless we brought her out for a dust-bath where we could keep an eye on her. She couldn’t forage and was alone most of the time. She’s been a good wee hen, raising chicks for us since 2015. Louise, her sister, will no doubt miss her too.

AND it rained all day!
