About us
Providing self-catering accommodation, growing veg and having a few chickens were the only definite plans when we arrived. Things have somewhat evolved since then!Prior to our arrival here, Kevin was a freelance journalist and I was a housewife and mum to two lovely lads! Both are still in the northwest of England along with their own families.Over the last ten years, life here has changed considerably, both at home and at work. The bed & breakfast side of things really took off and so after almost three years of working as a home carer, I gave it up to concentrate on all things ‘Garybuie’. For several years, Kevin has worked as administrator and fundraiser for the Skye based charity, ‘Camp and Trek’. He also works in the community library.Looking after the veg plots, polytunnel and ever changing animal population takes up a lot of our time but occasionally we do get some spare time. Kevin is a hill runner – there are plenty of those! – and enjoys reading in the winter months. I also enjoy reading but drawing and painting I find very absorbing and have recently started taking Pet Portrait commissions. We also have a motorbike and enjoy ‘3-hour holidays’ over the summer months, taking a picnic to some scenic spot!

Welcome aboard, Christine and Kevin. It’s a pleasure to meet you both. We’ve enjoyed visiting Garybuie and will row over more often for a touch of life on Skye.

Hi Miles and Pippa,
Ooooh, I don’t know, it’s a long way – perhaps at least an outboard motor might help a wee bitty!

Bloodyhell Kev this blog and website is far more interesting than any Bury Council press release I ever read! Just came across it whilst surfing. Great to catch up on all you’re doing these days. We are now both retired for seven years although they still ring us from the good old council to pick our brains. As a reward (!!) we are VIP guests at Bury FC on Saturday who are still sponsored by Bury MBC. How exciting is that.
Interesting that you are grandparents we are expecting our first in June through Matt and his wife Ruth. Matt is legal Eagle at Adidas UK so if you ever want any Adidas running gear at a giant discount I’ll swap it for a discount in Skye!
Hope to hear from you.

Hi Bob and Helen, good to know you are still alive and kicking…even if you are reduced to watching the Shakers!! I’m actually writing this in Helmshore as we are down here getting our first cuddles, small world eh? It’s quite a shock to the system coming back and we haven’t ventured into the centre of Bury, the traffic and all the changes would probably be too much for us hicks from the sticks or should that be Mac..hicks!?! Look after yourselves and if you are ever passing our way you now know where to find us!!!!
regards

Hi Kev,This is another blast from the past. BT Snapper Steve Holt here,Liz and myself are staying in Skye, somewhere near Borneskitaig,Kilmuir, in the middle of June, we have never been to your part of the world before, so any advice etc whould be great.
Still taking pictures for Bolton News/BT, its now in a very sorry state, much like the rest of the dying print media.
I see you still run, cannot believe we used to run around Rammy nearly thirty years ago!!!
Nice to have found your blog and website…

Hello again Donna Lee! Goodness, it seems AGES since you were both here and thank you too for being such pleasant guests! We’re full every night now and the dinners are going great, so not much time for blogging! Pop by again sometime and see what’s going on around the place!
