Catching up with family

It’s been all quiet on the blogging front for a couple of days as we took the opportunity to travel to Fife, on the east coast of Scotland, where Matt, Sarah and the twins are on holiday with the other new granparents. Fife has a beautiful coastline with higgledy-piggledy fishing villages, dating back several hundred years. We thought it was a great idea travelling across country for a family get together, rather than the usual lengthy journey to England. Obviously we hadn’t accounted for the small, winding country roads of Fife and the journey turned out to be only a couple of hours shorter than the one south of the border! It was well worth it anyway as the weather was glorious and we had a wonderful, if brief, time with our family. Dad came too and met his great-grandchildren for the first time!

It goes without saying that as beautiful as the scenery was, the main attraction was the twins who we haven’t seen since March. Lots of animation, a wide range of newly-discovered sound and smiles galore! Of course, suddenly waking up in strange surroundings with a strong smell of seaweed warrants some serious contemplation…

…followed by some serious toe-wiggling in that stuff called sand…

…and at the end of the day, Jake had to undergo a lesson in The Art of Barbecuing by his dad…”Rotation is the key” aparently!

We had a lovely time, but all good things come to an end and we had to get back to the BandB scene. Although it was sad to leave family behind, we had a nice surprise waiting for us back at Garybuie; Brenda has emerged from her nest with six healthy chics! We’re so pleased for her after her nesting upsets earlier in the season.

Aren’t we a bunch of fabulous softies…from your wee chicks to Brendas! There’s really nothing better than a family fix. 🙂
