…and then there was one.

A bad day at Garybuie as we’ve had to have Wallace, the sweetest of cats, put to sleep. He had a mystery illness which began abruptly on Friday evening. The vet examined him and couldn’t find anything conclusive so took blood tests. Sadly, he was unable to survive long enough for us  to hear the results. He was only six.

We’re still going ahead with the blood testing however, in the hope of shedding light on poor Wally’s demise. So, after loosing Boris over the winter and now Wallace, we are down to one cat only, Hamie. Kevin buried Wallace under the bird-table, a place where he frequently sat, not really grasping the fact that no, one of those juicy-looking finches was NOT going to fly obligingly into his jaws! He had the same tactic with bird-nuts too.

But we’ve all heard about clouds and their silver linings and what do you know, we spotted our very own silvery glint in the form of our missing, tree-dwelling hen, who Kevin found this morning after hearing the distinctive sound of chicks! Yes, she is out in the long grass of the old pig-pen but we can’t see yet how many chicks she has.

Lovely pictures and well done having that blood tested, he may have got into something you need to know about.. poor you losing two cats in a year.. but what a special silver lining.. i wonder how many chicks she is hiding in there. Thank goodness she did not try to hatch them in a tree! c

Absolutely. Poison is the word which keeps sneaking its way into my mind as the onset of his illness was quite sudden. Although where it could be from, I’ve no idea.

Thanks Dorinha. He was the sweetest cat we’d ever had and I’ll miss his wee blotchy face.
