Official adoption!

It’s official! Puff has indeed ‘ducknapped’ Biggles’ brood and abandoned her own nest containing seventeen eggs. The shared parental duties are working out well however as there’s always one duck to hand for duckling-minding duties, a particularly useful arrangement if one of the ducks fancies a trip to the river or when Biggles needs to take flight to avoid a certain Aylesbury drake’s attentions! There’s also a wee bit of ‘girl power’ involved too when they join forces to repel poor old Huff! He’s been told in no uncertain terms that he’s not welcome in his own home with his new family and is consequently residing in temporary accommodation alone! At least his presence is tolerated, most of the time, when the family venture into the garden when he can stand on guard and presumably feel useful!

Shared duties

Unfortunately, we are now down to seven ducklings but they all seem to be doing well and both biological and adoptive mothers seem happy!

Over the last twenty-four hours there’ been more excitement at Garybuie with the arrival of our second batch of chicks in the incubator. I haven’t managed to get a picture of the yet as it was a busy morning with B&B, but watch this space!

What a lovely blog! We just adopted six ducklings and have come to the conclusion that they’re Muscovies. I think I’ll be visiting your blog frequently and may have questions for you from time to time. 🙂

Glad you like it and you’re more than welcome to ask any questions you like! Bear in mind though that we’re still learning on a daily basis, especially where the muscovies are concerned. Meanwhile, I hope you’re enjoying your new aquisitions!
