A beautiful day!

Well, today has certainly been a vast improvement weatherwise with the sun shining and all the animals enjoying the day in their own way. Not so for the new chicks in the brooder I suppose, as today is just as warm, just as dry and just as RED as yesterday!!!

The Cherry Bs enjoyed some nice fresh water in the pool…

This little piggy REALLY enjoyed a mud bath…

And even Puff looked contented with her remaining duckling…

Things were good in the garden too. Kevin got the hedges trimmed and I got some weeding done in the veg patch. Last week we had our first peas from the polytunnel and they were delicious! They certainly whetted our appetites for all our other up and coming vegetables, which after the rain are coming on a treat…

Good growing weather!

Even the brassica patch is doing well despite its earlier duck-trampling!

No ducks, no tape!

Another task today was providing Francis Drake with a leg ring! We decided last night that he will be the only ‘Ayelsbury Runner’ drake that we’ll keep. Putting one of them with the Cherry Bs, who exhibit a leisurely/waddling kind of lifestyle which would be completely alien to his more high speed, flocking behaviour,  would probably cause him considerable distress. So we must unfortunately part company with two of the drakes in order to prevent  the ducks suffering from too much amorous attention! As Francis is the most endearing of the drakes, the the leg ring will hopefully prevent any mistaken identy issues!
